In late 1863, the New Zealand govt requested troops to assist in the invasion from the Waikato province against the M?ori. Promised settlement on confiscated land, more than 2,500 Australians (around 50 % of whom were being from Victoria) ended up recruited to type 4 Waikato Regiments. Other Austral
